West / East Axis

Mi Brethren Dem,

is the earth spinning off a north & south vertical axis, OR an east & west axis; like spinning a ball with two fingers, horizontally in front of you? Why is the sun’s position on the earth not oriented as the north most point of the earth?
Why doesn’t that make sense to more ppl?
